The Netherlands in the 16th century. Spanish troops under Philip II. march through Flanders, burning down houses and murdering people. Till Ulenspiegel's father is burned at the stake in Damme because of his resistance against the Spaniards. The buffoon Till becomes a courageous and cunning fighter against the foreign occupation. He manages to sneak into the court of the governor Duke Alba as court jester, where he can prevent the assassination of the Prince of Orange. He calls on the Dutch to fight against the Spanish. After a successful uprising, Till Ulenspiegel can finally be happy with his fiancée Nele in Damme.
